home_cesar.jpgProducers of National Geographic Channel's Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan will be in San Pedro Tuesday (Oct. 27) to meet with owners of dogs needing "rehabilitation." Those selected will be featured on a future show. The where-and-when details:

Petco, 852 N. Western Ave. (in the Park Plaza shopping Center near Peck Park), San Pedro.

Auditions are from 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 27.

To be considered, owners must create a 5- to 7-minute video in which they tell producers a little bit about themselves. The video also must show at least three instances of the dog's "bad, quirky, or phobic behavior."

Submissions cannot be accepted without a video.

Got a problem dog? A dog who has "issues"?

ceasar new.jpgDog Whisperer producers will be on hand from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 1 -- that's this coming Tuesday -- to screen "bad" dogs for a chance to appear on the popular National Geographic Channel show that features renowned celebrity dog trainer Cesar Millan (Cesar won't be there, but show producers only). The audition takes place at the Petco at 537 N. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach.

To be considered, owners must create a 5- to 7-minute video bad dog best 1.jpgin which they talk about themselves and show at least three instances of the dog's bad, quirky or phobic behavior. There will brief interviews with the producers. Dogs can be brought to the audition (with the exception of aggressive canines), but they must be on a leash at all times.

****Submissions cannot be accepted without a video. For details and help -- and to print out a submission form -- go to the Dog Whisperer Web site.

The show also is looking for problem wolf-hybrid dogs, so if you live in Los Angeles or Colorado Springs and have a problem "wolf dog," let the show  know right away.

If you can't make the Redondo Beach audition, you'll have another chance the following week, from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Petco at 1425 N. Montebello Blvd., Montebello.

Got a bad dog?

Videotape him and bring the recorded evidence to one of three auditions this month to be on The Dog Whisperer show with Cesar Millan.

Producers Kay Sumner and Sheila Emery will be on hand at three PetCo locations -- La Canada (May 8), Westwood (May 15) and Lakewood (May 22) -- to take submissions for the show's sixth season on National Geographic.

From the press release:

The show is looking for a wide variety of dog problems, including unusual phobias, obsessions, fearful behavior, or any other unique situations that Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan could help transform.

Owners are asked to leave aggressive dogs at home. Dogs do not need to be present at the audition.

Owners need to bring a video (any format except memory cards) showing their dog's bad behavior. Submissions cannot be accepted without a video. Release forms should also be completed and brought to the audition.

Those forms can be found at the Dog Whisperer Web site.

All three auditions will be conducted from 4 to 5 p.m. The dates and locations are:

  • May 8: PetCo, 475 Foothill Blvd., La Canada, CA 91011
  • May 15: PetCo, 1873 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025
  • May 22: PetCo, 5215 Lakewood Blvd., Lakewood, CA 90712

To get a feel for what one of these auditions are like, we posted on the South Bay Pets blog and wrote a Daily Breeze story about the show's San Pedro audition last September.

Cesar's next challenge?

TN12-Cesar- snarling chi.jpgCall it the bad dog lineup, the one time when being bad was actually good.

Check out our story  in today's Daily Breeze about what happened when producers for Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer Show came to San Pedro for an open-call audition.

Chiquita, the snarling chihuahua shown above, appeared to have Cesar potential.

So did the co-dependent, sometimes-snippy Mia, the way-too-cute shaggy dog straight out of a Disney movie shown lying down at left in the photo below. After her one-on-one interview, producers said Mia could be among those seriously considered to appear on the 5th season of the hit National Geographic show which begins this fall. Go Mia!

TN12-Cesar-mia.jpgWe'll try to update you on which dogs, if any, are selected from Thursday's open casting call in San Pedro. If you missed it and would like to apply, there are still two more opportunities:

Sept. 18 (4 to 6:30 p.m.) at the Petco Store at 1425 N. Montebello Blvd., Montebello

Sept. 25 (4 to 6:30 p.m.) at the Petco Store at 742 New Los Angeles Avenue, Suite A, Moorpark.

Owners must turn in a 5-minute video of their dog's bad behavior. You can read about that and what other materials are required at Cesar's Web site.

(And those of you who remember our earlier post this week on Theresa Sardisco's dog Willie will be happy to know that Theresa did manage to get Willie to be his bad old self for the video they turned in. Go Willie! We knew he could do it.)

Go figure.

Theresa Sardisco is just one of probably hundreds of dog owners who will submit their misbehaving dogs to be featured on the upcoming season of Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer show when the program's producers are in San Pedro Thursday. (See our earlier post Got bad dogs? for the details on that.)

So we decided we'd go over to her house this week to see just how bad Willie (the dog under Theresa's arm -- Sherman is her other pooch in the photo) really was.

"He runs like a psycho dog," Theresa promised us, whenever anyone walks by her fenced front yard. "You'll see people walking way out in the street (just to avoid him), it's so embarrassing."

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
