Centinela Pet Store coupons?

| | Comments (11) |
What's up with Centinela Pet Store's coupons? I had my June coupons -- and had not received the July ones in the mail yet -- but when I went to use them tonight, on June 30, they said they'd "expired." I said I hadn't gotten my July ones yet and, after all, it is still June.

No go. The clerk wouldn't budge.

I wouldn't have stopped there had I not had the coupons, which I'd been carting around in my bag all month. June coupons should be good through June. Period. Wouldn't you think? Especially if a customer has not received their July coupons yet. And I think this is the second time this has happened to me at the end of a month.

I should have just left without buying anything, but I was almost out of cat food and this is a very hectic week for me, so I just paid the full price, grumbling all the while I'll admit.

Well, it's back to Global Pet Outlet for me. They're probably cheaper anyway, even when you can get Centinela to take their own coupons. Crazy. It's just not always easy for me to get to Global.

But I think I'll just make the effort from now on.

Today officially kicks off the holiday shopping season, with sales and special deals being

offered at malls and stores everywhere.

And it looks like the local pet stores are no exception.

Centinela Pet Store at The Terraces in Rancho Palos Verdes is offering 20 percent off everything all day today, with other specials running through the weekend.

I've also received emails and seen fliers from Petco, Petsmart and several of the online pet supply companies, all offering discounts and sale prices today and this weekend as the holiday buying season begins.

So go shop.

And let us know if you're finding any exceptional deals out there on pet items that we can pass on to our readers.

PetCare Co. closing it's doors

| | Comments (0) |

Another victim of the economy and chain competition, The PetCare Co. in Hermosa Beach will close up shop on Sunday after nearly 20 years in business.

Torrance residents and dog enthusiasts Lewis and Paula Turner have been running The PetCare Co. since 1991. But the opening of a large chain store nearby and the recession have crippled their business.

The impending closure comes after the store recently partnered with Burbank-based Ken-Mar Rescue, a nonprofit canine rescue operation, to offer small dogs for adoption in the store. Lewis Turner said he had hoped the adoption service would help boost revenue.

"Turned out to be too little, too late," said Lewis Turner.

There are seven rescue dogs who still need homes before the business closes on Sunday.

The store is at 1630 Pacific Coast Highway, Hermosa Beach. Phone is 310-372-1980.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
