Dogs in snow -- It's a beautiful sight

Since it's practically COLD enough for snow around here these days, I thought I'd share with you one of my favorite other pet blogs, The Dog Blog in Alaska.

Here's their latest rescue dog who's available:

Adoption of the week: Meet Sami

DECEMBER 9, 2009 - 10:33 AM

Here's Anchorage Animal Care and Control's Adoption of the Week, courtesy of Brooke Taylor, AACCC's public relations coordinator.

Meet SamiMeet Today we'd like you to meet Sami, an adult, spayed female, pit bull mix. This girl loves to run. She is docile, friendly and easy to handle. She already knows how to sit for a treat, and her happy, playful attitude will endear her to anyone. She is a giver of kisses and great at playing fetch. She did well in Shelter Dog Playgroup and attended dog obedience class. She is very well behaved, but has lots of energy, so would do best in a home that could give her lots of exercise. She is already spayed, so she can be adopted for $72, which includes her MOA license, vaccinations and microchip.

Dogs just look so good in snow, I think.

So here's a question: Where's the best (and relatively close) place around the South Bay to take dogs for a romp in our local snow country? A few of us at the dog park were talking about organizing a caravan one of these wintry days, but a couple folks would like to find a fenced area so they could let their dogs off leash and not have to worry.

I've done some google searches for dog parks in our nearby mountains, but haven't really come up with anything other that open trails where dogs are permitted off leash.

Any suggestions?

And this being the holiday season, we surely can't neglect to post -- once again -- one of the funniest dog-in-snow videos, Bailey the Unknown Reindeer.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

Josh Grossberg grew up with the usual array of animals: goldfish, dogs, hamsters, parakeets and turtles. He now owns the loudest dog in the South Bay(Video: Rocket the Dog) and is the least popular person on his block. He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.
