Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush
At David Dobson’s home in Burbank, the local Democratic club gathered to huddle around flat-screen televisions.
They drank wine, shouted loudly and agreed that democracy was a beautiful thing.
“Everybody be quiet,” hollored Kevin Harrop, the club’s political action chair. “God is speaking.”
The room quieted down as Barak Obama took the stage.
“He took Colorado! That’s huge!” said party host Dobson, 45, a video editor. “So far, he’s done better than expectations. This could go all the way to the convention. ... He’s part of history, and Clinton’s not. That’s the difference for me.”
“She’s been preparing for this since day one,” said Melody Harrop, 50, of Burbank, referring to Hillary Clinton. “She is the ultimate achiever, and she’s a great role model for women.”
For some, their opinion of candidates have changed over time.
“I went to Obama,” said Janet Reynolds, 63, of Burbank. “I was very sad to see John Edwards suspend his campaign. I’ve met Hillary and eight years ago, I would have supported her, but I’m very angry about her votes on Iraq and Iran. ... Obama respresents the future. Hilary is part of the past. We had Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush. Are we going to have Clinton, Clinton again?”
