Double bubble, toil and trouble

| | Comments (0) |

It seems "double bubble" may unseat "hanging chad" for most overworked election-season phrase. Looks like a serious number of votes for the presidential primary will go uncounted in Los Angeles County because they were cast by those voters not registered as Democrats who wished to cast a ballot for a Democratic nominee but missed inking the party spot above the list of candidates. (And, yes, I think even one vote not counted because of a glitch is serious, but we're talking the high five figures in this case.)
There was little public information ahead of Election Day about this, and some poll workers have said since that they did not know to advise unaffiliated voters of this extra step.
If you're a "decline to state" voter who intended to chalk one up for Hillary, Barack, Gravel or even any of those in the D ballot who'd already withdrawn, or if you stand in principle with those voters, here's a petition appealing to the registrar to handcount those ballots, even if the voters didn't ink in the "Democratic" heading.
