Paramedics near strike
Paramedics and emergency medical technicians in portions of Los Angeles County will take a step closer to the picket line today when union leaders file a strike notice with American Medical Response, a private ambulance company serving about a dozen cities in the county. The roughly 300 employees who work in three zones - the San Gabriel Valley, the Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita - want better wages and benefits. AMR sent a proposal Monday, but the union rejected it.
"The offer does not meet our demands," said Matthew Levy, national director of the International Association of EMTs & Paramedics. "... We just can't agree to their terms."
