2nd District politics

The race for county supervisor is taking new twists and turns between state Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas and Councilman Bernard Parks.
On Saturday, the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment is sponsoring a regional meeting of grous in South Los Angeles, with Ridley-Thomas scheduled to be the opening speaker.
But, there was no spot for Parks _ who chairs the council's Budget and Finance Committe which is considering, among other things, the DONE budget for the coming year.
"We are well aware of the politics," DONE General Manager Bonghwan Kim said. "We have made the councilman aware of the event in any way we can. But that's part of the neighborhood council system where they decided who they wanted to speak."
The Ridley-Thomas invitation was prompted by the Eight District Empowerment Congress, a group he created while he was on the City Council.
In other developments, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce announced it was endorsing Parks in the election. It cited his years of experience as police chief and council member.

Why should Councilman Bernard Parks be invited to any event concerning South Los Angeles or Neighborhood Councils?

Parks had spent his entire political career show his dislike for Neighborhood Councils, neighborhood associations and grassroots organizations. He refuses for work with NC in his district. As chief of police he eliminated the Senior Lead Officer programs in our communities and made the CPAD councils into jokes.

Parks was invited to South L.A. Alliance of Neighborhood Councils candidates forum planed by NC and held in his own District and Parks was a NO SHOW. Why because he id not interested in candidates forums? Well that morning he attended one in WEST LA.

So why should he be invited to an event that about South LA NC, he dislikes Neighborhood Councils and he disrespects South Los Angeles.

State Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas is the right candiate for the second supervisory district which spans across a large chunk of this great city of ours. Mark Ridley-Thomas has a large track record of working with the community, unlike Parks who dislikes Neighborhood Councils and anything that is grassroots. If he were to win this would be a slap in the face for the residents of the second supervisory district. He voted to do away with rent control in the city giving the control to the landlords, Which means that he would put out a lot of children and families out of their homes. Another point is that Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas pioneered( lead the way for children to get health insurance)
