Rep. Maxine Waters and Councilman Bill Rosendahl will be leading an anti-war vigil starting at 7 p.m. Friday in West L.A, to commemorate the five-year anniversary of the declaration of "Mission Accomplished."
People are being asked to bring candles to light as part of the event ,which will be held on Sepulveda Boulevard between Manchester Avenue and La Tijera Boulevard.
Rosendahl, a Vietnam-era veteran, has been among the most outspoken council members against the Iraq War.
"The president's statement referred to an end of major combat in Iraq,' Rosendahl said "Five years later, 4,000 American troops have died and over 29,000 have been wounded."
Rosendahl said he hopes Congress will act to end the war as soon as possible.
Waters is co-founder and chair of the "Out of Iraq" Congressional Caucus, which includes 77 House members. It was formed in 2005 as an official protest group to the war.
