MALDEF gets new board chair

Former New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid was named Friday as the new chair of the MALDEF Board of Directors.
"I am honored to serve at MALDEF, an organization advocating for our community's best interests in our nation's schools, workplaces and federal and local courts," Madrid said.
Along with Madrid, eight new directors were named to the board.
Madrid has extensive legal experience. In 1978, she became the first woman elected as district court judge in New Mexico and, in 1998 became Attorney General of that state.
She is co-founder of the Democratic Attorneys General Association, a national political organization formed to support the election of Democrats to the office of attorney general. She serves on Latino Leadership Committee for Sen. Barack Obama and is cho-chair of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee.
