Mayor planning trip to Israel

In his third major international trip since he took office, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced Tuesday that he plans to lead a delegation to Israel next month to discuss security, counterterrorism and environmentalism.Daily News.

"The mayor will meet with top Israeli officials and sign agreements designed to better secure L.A.'s airports, enhance security at the Port of Los Angeles and improve counterterrorism and emergency-response tactics," spokesman Matt Szabo said.

The trip June 11-18 will include city officials and about a dozen other area residents and is being paid for by two city public agencies: Los Angeles World Airports, which is the airports department, and the Port of Los Angeles.
