Mayor turns to friends
Relying on his ties to former Mayor Henry Cisneros, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa came to San Antonio on Thursday to tap contributors for his re-election bid in 2009. San Antonio Express.
Several dozen people turned out for the fundraiser at Magnolia Gardens, many of them writing checks for $100 to $1,000.
After losing his first mayoral campaign in 2001, Villaraigosa won in 2005 and started building a national reputation as the leader of the country's second-largest city. Despite admitting an extramarital affair last year with a television reporter, he's believed in some quarters to be considering seeking the Democratic nomination for governor in 2010.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has broken the backs of stakeholders in Los Angeles by increasing rates and fees numerous times. He has overspent and is close to bankrupting the city while thousands of city employees are close to losing their jobs for lack of payroll. On top of all of this the mayor is proposing billions of dollars for new programs. He is in the hands of the unions, developers and palling around with a known felon Henry Cisneros makes for a good example of his lacking character and honorability. Having an extramarital affair in public and using city employees to try and cover up is a complete lack of judgment and further proof of his weak character. Using city funds to travel all around the world to campaign for himself and others while not staying home in Los Angeles to take care of city business is a sign of complete mismanagement. We need a change now for an honorable mayor in Los Angeles and heaven help us if he ever became governor of California.
