County joins Prop. 8 fight

Los Angeles County supervisors voted Wednesday to join cities and counties in lawsuits against the same-sex marriage ban, a move cheered by gays and lesbians who say they'll step up protests to overturn the divisive measure approved by voters last week. The supervisors voted 3-0 to piggyback on lawsuits filed by Los Angeles, the city and county of San Francisco and Santa Clara County. Two likely dissenters, Supervisors Michael D. Antonovich and Don Knabe, were absent.

The lawsuits ask the state Supreme Court to stop the state from enforcing Proposition 8 until its constitutionality can be determined.
