Protective League organizes against furloughs

Despite assurances that policing in the cash-strapped city will not be scaled back, the Police Protective League has mounted a campaign to generate public opposition to LAPD furloughs.
Daily News

The PPL sent an e-mail to 400,000 registered voters, asking them to contact Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the City Council and express their opposition to any furlough of Los Angeles Police Department officers.

And where did the PPL get those e-mails? Not from the voter records because it is not asked for.

I got one of those e-mails and was ticked off. The only city-affiliated groups with my e-mail address are: Wendy Greuel's council office, her campaign office (which got them from the council lists no doubt) and the (useless) Valley Glen Community Council. I guess the right to privacy does not include government. What right does any government official have to share my e-mail address with other groups? That would be illegal if my company (a financial institution) did that.

As a LA taxpayer, all segments of city government should live within their means. Our trash tax, er ah fee, jumped to allow more $$ to police. If police are cut back, then give us back the increase in the trash tax.
