Pick up in local filming

The good news about filming in Los Angeles is that the bad news has gotten a little better.

According to the third-quarter report from FilmL.A., the nonprofit that coordinates location shooting permits for the city, local production dropped 14.3 percent compared to the same period of 2008.

There was, however, a healthy 25.5 percent increase in feature film shoots this summer. Commercials were also up by 10.2 percent, following four straight double-digit quarterly losses.
