Recession kills charity bike ride

-- For 25 years, thousands of charity-minded motorcyclists have roared down L.A. freeways behind celebrities like Jay Leno and Peter Fonda in the Love Ride -- an annual trek to raise millions of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other causes.

But this year, the Valley's biggest charity drive will come to a screeching halt.

The road block, organizers said Thursday, is a sluggish economy that has made thousands of bikers think twice about parting with $60 for the entry ticket.
