Cooley to get in AG race?
Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley yesterday inched close to, but just shy of, a formal announcement that he is running for California attorney general. Kenneth Ofgang in the Metropolitan News.
Sounding very much like someone who has made up his mind to run, he told the MetNews that he has "been strongly encouraged in the last several months" to seek the post "and I am definitely considering it." He said he wanted to "get through the holidays and the bowl games" and will announce his decision in the next 10 to 12 days.
His decision, he said, "boils down to one thing--who is best suited to be California's chief law enforcement officer." While the attorney general heads a department with "several core missions," he explained, the job "needs an experienced, reliable, seasoned law enforcement type."

Here we go.. shame on the LA County Democratic Party for setting him up for this run. All politics are partisan and now he is in a position to run over the party candidate that wins the primary and then run for governor in 2018 if not sooner!. The Democratic party nominee for AG will have to come out of what is expected to be a hard fought and expensive primary and then face a well positioned and funded Republican Steve Cooley. Betcha dollars to donuts Harman will give way it what Republicans do and Dems have't learned.. What does Cooley have to sell his party? Simply that he is electable to the state office because Democrats have supported his election for a recond 3 terms in LA County where the Dems out numbered Republicans 2-1. LA County party Chair Eric Bauman and his lackies should be replaced for letting this happen moreover for allowing Hector DelaTorre sell them a bill a goods without taking a little time to verify the truth! Shame Shame Shame.. and Dems should support Dela Torres' opponent for Insurance Commisioner in the primary.
The Democratic party supported Cooley overwhelmingly and for an unprecedented 3 terms for a reason - we're going to see why when he wipes the floor with all the dems if he runs in the general election. Cooley has done great things for LA and will maintain his impressive record as attorney general. And if he wants to run for governor, the state would be lucky to have him.
Your support is definitely of your party and that is all good. However this comment is to Democrats. For the interim I would urge you to verify and know your election stats before commenting. FYI in LA County the DA race requires 50% + 1 vote to avoid a run off. Although the votes cast for a DA that day gave him the appearance of 50% the actual voter records reveal the truth. Over 360,000 primarily democrat voters that voted in other races that day did not cast a vote for DA that day. One could easily conclude their inability to cast their vote for him is because they are not supportive of him. Taking that number into consideration the real truth was he was under 50%, moreover most of his votes came from his party, as they should have. Therefore further enhancing my position that LA County Democratic Leadership once again failed in their undertaken responsibilities to their party members. Which has created this Frankenstein's monster and this has put him into a position to attain electricity and giving him life that will surely wreak havoc statewide upon all Democrat voters. If he was elected governor it wouldn't be the 1st time a numb skull Republican conned and extorted his way to the top while the Democrat Party leaders were fast asleep.
