Valley gangs turning to the internet
For a while now, the Barrio Van Nuys street gang has been claiming a version of the New York Yankees' interlocked NY logo as its own. Tony Castro in the Dalyo News.
By trimming the tail off the 'Y,' the famous Major League Baseball trademark is turned into an interwoven VN, standing for Van Nuys. The gang is touting its Yankee-esque symbol on social networking Web sites and YouTube.
It's just one example of what law enforcement say is an increasing trend among gangs to use cyberspace to broaden their appeal, boast of illegal exploits, pose threats and recruit new members.

Los Angeles Daily News City Hall reporter

Mr. Orlov, thank you for the insight. This clearly points out the need for the "older generation" to more effectively continue to groom the younger generation of leaders in order for our society to maintain and develop the skills to address society's ills. To the detriment of our society there are people that reside and work here that still hold attitudes of superiority over communities that differ from theirs, which alienates each other. This attitude exists among Los Angeles leadership in all sectors of our society. Another deficiency is the lack of people uniting and speaking out against these attitudes. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has tried to do this, but he can't do it alone. We all need to work on speaking out and promote unity.
