Student protestors clash with police

An afternoon march and rally Thursday involving some 2,800 students and faculty at California State University, Northridge, turned into a tense evening standoff as protesters blocked off a major intersection and defied dispersal orders from officers in riot gear. Connie Llanos in the Daily News.

Police arrested at least five students, while a 73-year-old faculty member had to be treated for a broken arm when she was pushed to the ground.

The march was part of a nationwide "Day of Action" in which thousands of teachers, professors, students and parents joined rallies, sit-ins and marches to protest steep cuts in public education.

Maybe Mr. Orlov you can explain something to me that has puzzled me for years. Why must the full name of the Valley's four-year public university be used in every DN story when that same "standard" does not apply to the Westwood public university, the downtown LA private university or, as evidenced in the linked story, any other campus of the University of California? Why the unequal treatment for my alma mater versus other colleges/universities? In fact, I am really close to cancelling my subscription to the DN because of the unequal treatment of CSUN vs. that given to UCLA and/or USC by your newspaper.
