Boxer comments on Obama administration transportation funding

barbaraboxer_2.jpgEarlier this week, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said she was pleased that the White House is being proactive in working with Congress to address the shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund.

The Obama Administration's proposal includes an 18-month highway, transit and highway safety reauthorization to replenish the Highway Trust Fund, according to a news release from Boxer's office.

"As we work our way out of this recession, the last thing we want to do is to drastically cut back on necessary transportation priorities," Boxer said.

"The White House proposal to replenish the Trust Fund until 2011 will keep the recovery and job creation moving forward and give us the necessary time to pass a more comprehensive multi-year transportation authorization bill with stable and reliable funding sources."

Boxer serves as the chairman of the Senate committee on environment and public work.
