Congressional leaders, including House Armed Services Committee ranking member Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, are meeting with President Barack Obama this afternoon to discuss troop levels in Afghanistan.

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, has said he wants up to 40,000 additional troops, while Obama administration officials have supported a plan that would not call for additional troops.

McKeon, who represents part of San Bernardino County, will speak with local media following the meeting.

Congressman McKeon is a staunch supporter for our military forces. I am confident that he will represent the 25h congressional district well. Congressman McKeon has always looks out for those who wear this nation's uniform and so I am assured that discussions today with the President and Gen. McChrystal will be productive.
