POMONA - Western University of Health Sciences officials celebrated
Wednesday the placement of the last major steel girder on what will
be one of its largest academic buildings.

University officials signed the girder of what will be the Health
Education Center before it was set in place as part of a topping out
ceremony.

Taking part in the ceremony were University officials and
representatives of DPR Construction Inc., a national firm handling
the construction of the facility.

Once completed the structure will be a four-story, 180,000 square
foot building that is expected to open in January 2010, said a
university spokesman.

Among the features of the building will be two 350-seat auditoriums,
six 125-seat classrooms and more than 50 small group meeting rooms
for student use in addition to research facilities.

The building will become the new home for the University's College of
Osteopathic Medicine as well as for new degree programs in dentistry,
podiatry and optometry. The first class of students in the three new
programs will arrive in August.

I read on a sign on Towne Ave that the building, or part of it, was to be a health clinic for the residents of Pomona. Why is there no mention of this in the article? Was the sign mistaken? I want to know why this building is good for Pomona. I don't really care why it is good for the school. Yeah, ren, you tell em.
