hello, i was wondering if it would be possible to run the sign ups info. before signups and also if we could get it in the sports page as well, pomona pop warner is also providing a payment plan, fifty dollars down.SECURE YOUR SPOT deal! we would difinitly like our community to know this information before hand..having pop warner back is huge for the city of pomona ,we have not had a pop warner program in over thirty years,in fact pomona is an original mt.baldy conference member, back in the 70s pomona had a championship team every year before it disbanded..those were the glory days, our high school football teams were the talk of great talent and school pride..today we have struggling programs,(e.g)ganesha..0-49 when it began its 08 season, this because we lacked a good feeder program,(like pop warner)in fact,we had a little league baseball program and popwarner league fold at almost the same time in the late 70s and in thier absense we experienced an increase in gang and criminal activity, that mistake would come back to haunt us,pomona expereinced alot of pain and grief in the late 80s,in fact, we had one of the highest murder rates in the nation!i experiened that hardship and almost fell victim, sports was like a blast of fresh air, away from the rings of gun fire, the screams of grief, and the pressures of trying to survive as a CHILD,stresses that would make military men crack in time of war, pomona was a WARZONE!you would have to live thru it to understand it,those of us who live in these neighborhoods hope we never see those days again.you know you can go to any high school in pomona on thanksgiving day and find guys playing a good game of football,we refer to this as the turkey bowl, and once in a while even back in the day gang members would put their guns down, and set aside differences and pick up a football!and on that field you were a ram,a raider,a charger a cowboy, you were a part of what was great in the NFL..living out a dream..for one to two hours of tackle football!!it didnt even matter if you were bruised or beat up,sore the next day,we lived for that moment as football players with stories to tell for a lifetime...which brings me to this point, and i only say this because ive asked this question many times and got the same answer from most gang members.. if asked ,what sport they would have liked to play growing up..most would answer FOOTBALL..now just think if we can reach these kids before the gangs do,and teach them discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, the importance of academics, respect for self and others, only then we will begin to see real change, hope and yes a future for our youth in pomona.. i am a life long resident and grew up in the rough streets of pomona, why in fact you can say i am a survivor...i am also a pop warner alumn and our kids need programs like this to disrupt gang involvement, this is city wide and will serve as a conduit to bring our fragmented city together...this is news worthy for our city..we are one Pomona!and together we can do great things! so lets get excited, get parents excited, and in turn our kids will be excited, enthusiasum is contagious!LET US MAKE HER PROUD ONCE AGAIN!! GO POMONA..CHAMPIONS ON THE FIELD...CHAMPIONS IN SCHOOL...CHAMPIONS IN LIFE...BELIEVE IT... we would love to have your support, let the inland valley know that a great thing is happening in pomona, pop warner is back!!!
