Pomona council sets date for pizzeria hearing

| | Comments (0) |

The topic of Angelo's Pizzeria will be the topic of a public hearing to be conducted by the Pomona City Council April 5.

City Council members voted unanimously this week in favor of setting the hearing. Councilwoman Danielle Soto did not attend the meeting and Mayor Elliott Rothman was not present for that portion of the meeting.

Community Development Director Mark Lazzaretto said business owner Jason Abboud has complied with all but two of 11 outstanding requirements Council members set in an agreement reached late last year.

Of concern is that Abboud has stated he will not sign a certificate of compliance which gives the conditions under which the business must operate.

Lazzaretto said Abboud does not agree with a condition City Council members set recently which limits alcohol sales at the establishment located at 135 E. Second St. to beer and wine.

"So we are at a stalemate," Lazzaretto said.

At the hearing council members will determine how to proceed next. Options could include removing the liquor sales condition, modify the establishment's conditional use permit of suspending the conditional use permit, Lazzaretto said.
