Pomona Unified student science projects on display at Cortez
Science projects created by middle school and high school students of the Pomona Unified School District will be on display for the public to view Saturday (March 20) from 11 a.m. to noon at Cortez Mathematics and Science Magnet School, 1300 Dudley St.
Nineteen schools will participate in the Pomona Science Fair, which has been organized by members of the Pomona Youth and Family Master Plan Community Board.
Awards will be presented to the top project and two runners up in both the middle school level and the high school level, said Sarah Ross, a community board member who has been involved in the organization of the event.
Winners of the Pomona Science Fair will be announced at noon.
The winners will go on to represent the district in the Los Angeles County Science Fair organized by the Los Angeles County Office of Education April 14-16 at the Pasadena Convention Center.
"We believe a great way to improve reading, writing and critical thinking skills is through science fairs," Ross said.
This is the first year the Community Board has organized the district-wide science fair.
Organizers believe the science fair will grow and become more competitive as students learn about it and the opportunity exists to move on to higher levels of competitions, Ross said.
