02/16/08 GIRLS PLAYOFF BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
DIVISION I
Ayala 1, Upland 0
Analisa Rodriguez scored in the opening five minutes off a Brittany Dobbs cross to lift the Bulldogs (14-4-3) into the second round with a home victory over the Highlanders.
Ayala goalie Alicen Wright recorded six saves for her 14th shutout of the year.
Upland goalkeeper Savanah Thompson had seven saves.
Ayala will face Esperanza on Wednesday in the second round.
Los Osos 2, Edison 1
Haylee Eguchi scored both goals, including the game-winning goal in the 71st minute, to lift the Grizzlies (17-4-5) past visiting Edison.
Both goals came off of Paige Silva throw-ins while Leau Labonta and Kylie Nicassio had an assist each.
DIVISION II
Yucaipa 2, Irvine 1 (OT)
Kellie Bohner scored on a Hailey Lopez direct kick that deflected off the goalkeeper with seven minutes remaining in overtime to give host Yucaipa (23-1-3), the No. 1 seed, a first-round win.
Bohner opened the scoring with a goal off a Lindsay Cano corner kick three minutes into the second half.
<NO1>Irvine equalized in the 58th minute, when Vivien Cook headed in a direct kick from Carly McLaughlin.
<NO>Jessica White had 14 saves in goal for Yucaipa.
The Thunderbirds play Agoura in the second round.
Redlands 3, Chaffey 2 (OT)
Jamie Crow scored in overtime for the Terriers in a win over the host Tigers (19-3-2).
Crow also scored in the first half after Chaffey’s Jackie Waldman to tie the game at 1-1.
Casey Mendoza tied the game at the end of regulation for Redlands (15-4-3). Mendoza also had the assist to Crow in overtime.
Chaffey’s Elisa Lopez had seven saves.
Redlands now awaits their second-round opponent Wednesday.
DIVISION III
La Mirada 2, Norco 0
In a rematch of last year’s second-round game, Norco again traveled to La Mirada on Saturday with similar results. Last year the Matadores beat Norco 1-0. The teams kept the game scoreless until La Mirada’s Natalia Ledezma shot a free kick from 25 yards out and drilled it past senior keeper Shawnda Federickson, who tallied eight saves on the day.
DIVISION IV
Kaiser 3, South Pasadena 0
Tiffany Pena had two goals to lead the Cats (17-4-4) to the win.
Bianca Velasco only had to make three saves to preserve the shutout.
Gabby Alvarado scored a goal to break a scoreless tie in the first half for Kaiser, which will play Serrano on Wednesday.
Granite Hills 5, Jurupa Valley 0
Louise Baartz netted three goals and Emily Ochoa added two as the Cougars (17-5-2) shut out the visiting Jackrabbits.
Granite Hills outshot Jurupa Valley 24-1 and led 3-0 at the half.
DIVISION VI
Arrowhead Christian 1, Baldwin Park Sierra Vista 0
Kristina Gomez scored off a cross from sister Erika Gomez in the 22nd minute to lead ACA (16-5-4) over host Sierra Vista (16-6).
Naomi Sornoso made three saves but was rarely tested in the second half.
ACA plays the winner of New Community Jewish and Bishop Union at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Ontario Christian 3, Woodcrest Christian 1
The defending Division VI CIF champion Knights had three differnt players score in their rout over Western Christian. Kaitllyn Mendoza, Marisella Macias, and Taylor Libolt all had a goal for Ontario Christian (16-8-3) which now awaits their second-round opponent Wednesday.
Macias and Mendoza also assisted each other.
