IT TOOK 12 INNINGS, YET THE COUGARS PREVAILED
Kyle Barry hit a go-ahead two-run single in the 12th inning to spur a six-run rally and clinch a playoff spot for Rancho Cucamonga, >which scored six in the frame who defeated Alta Loma 11-5 in Baseline League action Wednesday.
Barry went 3-for-6 with two RBI and Danny McNabb 4-for-7 with two RBI for the Cougars (12-13, 7-8).
Alta Loma (17-7, 10-5) finished second in the Baseline League and Upland first behind first-place Upland.
Matt Page, who scored the game-winning run, went 3-for-7 with two RBI. The Cougars' John Brehaut (4-2) earned the win by allowing just one run over the final 8 innings.
BASELINE LEAGUE
Claremont 3, Los Osos 2
Senior Kevin Bosson (5-2) tossed his fourth complete game of the season, striking out 15 and walking one in the victory for the Wolfpack (13-12, 7-8)<NO1>eliminating the Grizzlies from playoff contention. However, Rancho Cucamonga's win later in the day eliminated the Wolfpack.
Matt Anderson's sixth-inning double broke a 2-2 tie with the Grizzlies (11-15, 6-9), who got a double from Arby Fields and a triple from Jake Hernandez.
Etiwanda 3, Upland 0
Joey Narez had an RBI triple and scored for the Eagles (11-14, 4-11).
CITRUS BELT LEAGUE
Redlands East Valley 14, Miller 8
Ryan Burcroff and Ryan Boeger each went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored for the Citrus Belt League-champion Wildcats (22-2, 12-1).
Tyler Chatwood earned the victory on the mound, striking out six and driving in a pair of runs to help his own cause.
David Palomino went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored for Miller.
Carter 3, Fontana 1
Tyler Spotville and Steve Landazuri stroked runs-scoring singles in the ninth to boost the Lions (15-11, 6-7) past the Steelers and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Jordan Williams started the uprising with a double and scored on a hit by Spotville, who then was driven home by Landazuri.
Doug Conrado (4-2) went the distance, striking out five and picking off two. He also worked out of a bases-loaded one out jam in the seventh by getting a double play.
Rialto 12, Redlands 3
Eric Hernandez slammed four hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three runs while winning pitcher Xavier DelaCruz had three RBI on two hits as the Knights (15-8, 9-4) scored the first five innings against the Terriers (11-13, 3-10).
Hector Padilla had four singles for Rialto and scored three times, while Nick Martinez had a double and two singles for the Knights.
Yucaipa 20, Eisenhower 0
Matt Collins went 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a grand slam, in the Thunderbirds' (18-8, 9-4) rout of the Eagles.
Adam Miller threw a one-hitter, striking out 12 for second-place Yucaipa, which plays at Carter Friday at 3:15 p.m.
SUNKIST LEAGUE
Kaiser 7, Jurupa Valley 6
Ernie Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch in the last of the seventh inning to give the Cats (19-5-1, 12-2) the win against the Jaguars (3-21, 3-11), which battled back after falling behind 4-0.
Rodriguez had a two-run single in the first and Mike Lopez added a RBI single for the Cats in the rally. Jasper Ramirez and Malcolm Lee each had two hits for Kaiser and Zack Tapia batted in two runs.
VICTORY LEAGUE
Bloomington Christian 16, Mesa Grande 3
Matthew Eshleman went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two stolen bases in addition to pitching a complete game for the Ravens (16-6, 10-2), who finished the regular season in second place.
Charles Fortis went 3-for-3 with an RBI for and George Pena had two triples and an RBI for the Ravens, who led 13-3 after three innings.
MAJESTIC LEAGUE
Packinghouse Christian 10, Lake Arrowhead Christian 0
The Bears (11-6, 6-0) wrapped up a league title with an easy win in their regular season finale.
Junior left-hander Matt Berry went the distance, allowing just one hit and striking out 11.
Berry, Matt Mielak and Nick Kreider spearheaded the offensive effort.
