Alyson Lock dribbled the length of the floor to
score a 3-foot basket with 4.2 seconds to play to give Mark Keppel
High School a 56-55 victory over Canyon of Canyon Country in the
CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA quarterfinals on Saturday
night.
“I just wanted it to go in so badly,” the junior said. “I didn’t know
if it was going to go in.”
The Cowboys took a 55-54 lead, their first lead of the game since the
second quarter, when Alia McCoy scored on a layup with 11 seconds to
play. Keppel coach Hon Trieu called timeout on the rushed inbounds
pass, with 8.9 seconds remaining.
“Why get in her way?” Trieu said of the plan to give the ball to her
best player. “I’m not that good of a coach. That’s why she’s Alyson
Lock.”
