GIRLS SOCCER: CIF-SS-PLAYOFFS-DIVISION 6-SEMIFINALS: HEMET 2, SOUTH PASADENA 1

The South Pasadena High School girls soccer team’s
magical CIF-Southern Section playoff run is over at the hands of a
fastbreak.
Hemet scored a counterattack goal immediately after a South Pasadena
corner kick that appeared to go off a Bulldog player’s hand in a 2-1
victory in a Division 6 semifinal game on Tuesday afternoon.
“A girl saved it with her hands,” South Pasadena midfielder Taylor
Colliau said. “If it was at home I don’t know if the refs would have
magically seen it. It was literally a hand ball. I don’t know what
else to say.”
With Hemet leading, 1-0, Lenja Suey took a corner kick 40 minutes
into the game. Defender Nola Prickett got a head on the kick, but it
appeared it might have gone off another’ defender’s hand, which would
have resulted in a penalty kick.
“Referees can’t see everything,” Tigers coach Randy Lilavois said.
“From our standpoint it was obviously a hand ball. We can’t blame
the loss on that. The girl made a big run and we couldn’t stay with
her.”
