SOFTBALL: NONLEAGUE – MARSHALL 11, RIO HONDO PREP 5
Marshall improved to 12-1 on the season behind the complete game pitching performance from senior Sierra Newton. Newton gave up eight hits and allowed one walk while striking out five. The senior also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a triple, single and three RBIs and scored once. The Eagles also were led by senior Natalie Hill who two singles, a walk and scored twice. Junior Amy Zeronian went 1 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and scored once.
BASEBALL: MONTVIEW LEAGUE – LA PUENTE 5, GLADSTONE 4
The Warriors’ Eric Morales, freshman right fielder, pulled a game-winning line drive to right field on two outs to beat the Gladiators. Morales finished the game batting 3 for 4 while teammate Cody Hrey went 4 for 4 with two RBIs. After La Puente’s four run spurt in the third inning, Gladstone followed it up with their own four run inning in the fourth to tie the game until Morales’ game-winner. The Gladiators (2-2) committed the only two errors of the game while the Warriors (4-0) tallied 12 hits.
BASEBALL: MONTVIEW LEAGUE – AZUSA 6, BASSETT 5
Azusa kept Bassett winless in league play thanks to the heroics of junior third baseman Carlos Raymundo who belted a one out double to left center to score James Figueroa and Jacob Ramos who were on second and first, respectively.
Senior Eric Ortiz pitched the sixth and seventh innings to pick up the victory.
BASEBALL: MISSION VALLEY LEAGUE – SOUTH EL MONTE 6, MOUNTAIN VIEW 5
The Eagles needed Fernando Calderon to hit a walkoff single with no outs to drive in the two runs to beat the Vikings in regulation. The Vikings’ pitching staff allowed three consecutive walks in the bottom of the seventh inning to load the bases and ultimately erase their 5-4 lead. South El Monte’s Alex Vera batted a perfect 3 for 3 to lift their record to 4-1 in league while Mountain View slips to 2-3.
SOFTBALL: HACIENDA LEAGUE: DIAMOND BAR 16, WALNUT 8
Dani Wilson went the distance with nine strikeouts and allowed eights run while picking up the win. Wilson improved to 4-1 and 2-1 in league play.
Wilson also was productive at the plate going 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI’s and Marissa McKendall had two RBI’s for Diamond Bar. Diamond Bar improved to 5-4 and 2-1 in league play.
Alisha Greene had a double for Walnut and Elaine Brown went 2 for 2 with two RBI’s.
With the loss, Walnut dropped to 2-11 and 0-4 in league.
