SOFTBALL: RIO HONDO LEAGUE – LA CANADA 9, TEMPLE CITY 0

La Caada senior Lauren Cox threw her twelfth shutout of the season and is now 15-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in league play. The senior nearly threw a no-hitter except she gave up a hit in the seventh inning. Still, Cox finished the game with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Offensively, the Spartans were led by sophomore right fielder Olivia Leyva. She was 2 for 2 from the plate and collected a double, single as she drove in two runs while scoring one run and she also stole a base. Sophomore second baseman Katy Lee also contributed as she went 2 for 3 with two singles and knocked in a run and she also scored two runs. Junior first baseman Kelsey Drange had a big hit in the first inning as her single drove in a run and her walk in the fifth inning forced in another run, which gave her two RBIs on the day. La Canada improves to 17-4-1 overall and 6-1-1 in league while Temple City falls to 5-16 and 1-7.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: DEL RIO LEAGUE – CALIFORNIA 3, PIONEER 2

Pioneer almost completed the comeback after falling behind 2-0 to the Condors but, lost the fifth game 25-22, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-6. The Titans junior middle hitter Robert Nuez recorded nine kills, 11 blocks, and one ace, junior middle hitter Angel Paez had nine kills, two blocks, two assists and one ace. Senior setter Daniel Mariscal chipped in with 15 assists, eight kills, five digs and 2 aces.
