BASEBALL: CIF-SS-PLAYOFFS-DIVISION 2-SECOND ROUND- GLENDORA 5, CYPRESS 2

Glendora heard since last week how tough Cypress, the No. 4 seed, was and how they had no chance. The Tartans, the Baseline League Co-Champion, would have none of that as they posted a 5-2 win over the Centurions in the CIF Division 2 game at Glendora.
Early on it didn’t look promising, as Cypress got a two out 2-run home run from Stephen Lohr in the top of the first inning off Wyatt Wood. However, Wood would repay the favor as he came up with a 2-run home run of his own to tie it at 2-2 after the first inning.
Wood would work out of a bases loaded jam in the third inning, as he induced a pop up to shortstop to stop the threat. The Tartans would use that momentum to plate two run in the bottom half as DJ Peters hit a 2-run double to deep center to give Glendora the 4-2 lead.
From there on out Wood was dominant as the senior would shut down Cypress in the fourth and fifth innings and then would put the dagger into the Orange County team in the bottom of the fifth. Donovan Holmes led off with a high hop grounder to second base and then Martin Gallegos followed that by reaching base when he was hit by the pitch. Wood would make them pay as he laced a single to right field to score Holmes to push the lead to 5-2.
Wood, who had no complete games all season, would throw his first career game complete game. After giving up a lead off walk in the sixth inning, he would comeback to record two pop ups and a strike out setting up the seventh inning. Wood would get a groundout for the first out. Cypress would get an one out single to give Glendora coach, Dan Henley thoughts of bringing in their closer, but this was Wood’s game. He would get a fielder’s choice for the second out and ended it with a ground ball to third base to move the Tartans on to the quarter-finals.
Wood finished the game 2-3, 3 RBIs and Freshman, Nick Kaye was 2-3 and Sophomore DJ Peters 1-3, 2RBIs.
