BASEBALL-CIF-SS-PLAYOFFS-DIVISION 6-FIRST ROUND-PASADENA POLY 14, LONE PINE 0

In the first round of the CIF–SS Division 6 playoffs, Pasadena Poly (17-5 overall)defeated visiting Lone Pine 14-0 behind a season high 17 hits at Babcock Field. Every starter had at least one hit, and the 14 runs tied a season high.
For Poly, ranked 4th in the final CIF–SS Divison 6 poll and number one in MaxPreps’ CIF–SS Div 6 rankings, the win was their 13th in a row and 15th of the last 16. David Orndorff was two for four with three RBIs, including a two run homerun to the center, his third of the season. Jonah Campbell was two for four with two doubles and three RBIs. Luke Asperger was two for four with three RBIs. Davey Fess was four for four including a double. Zack Bern was two for three and Joey Asperger added a two run double. Caleb Lee and Charlie Ramirez also had doubles.
On the mound, Chris Ward threw four scoreless, one hit innings with eight strikeouts to run his record to 10-0, and Orndorff finished the shutout with four strikeouts over three scoreless innings.

SOFTBALL: CIF-SS-PLAYOFFS-DIVISION 6-FIRST ROUND-RIO HONDO PREP 15, SADDLEBACK 8

Jensen Barrett (14-2) went the distance scattering eight hits and striking out one as the Kares scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back.
With the win Rio Hondo Prep improved to 15-4.
Rio Hondo Prep got plenty of offense from Reyna Alvarado who went 3 for 4 with a double an RBI and three runs scored. Stephanie Esquivel went 3 for 4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Dayna Sanchez went 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored, Alexis Parker went 2 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored and Sammy Martin chipped in with a 2 for 4 performance a RBI and one run scored.

SOFTBALL-CIF-SS-PLAYOFFS-DIVISION 4-WILD CARD-MARANATHA 9, COACHELLA VALLEY 6

Angie Amezquita went the distance allowing eight hits and striking out four.
The Minutemen were led offensively by Kelly Natham going 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI. Elysa McAllister was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.
With the win, Maranatha improved to 10-16.
Brinna Alcorn and Salena Sainas each went three innings for the Arabs and allowed eight hits. Alcorn recorded two strikeouts.
Abdesy Galinea went 1 for 4 and had two RBIs to lead Coachella Valley. With the loss, the Arabs dropped to 14-12.

BASEBALL: SIERRA LEAGUE – CHARTER OAK 6, CHINO HILLS 5

Charter Oak scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on for the win over the Huskies. Senior Matt Page, who came in the sixth inning, got the win and improves 2-0 on the season. With the win, the Chargers up its record to 14-9 overall and 7-8 in league play, while Chino Hills drops to 8-7 in league. Trailing 4-3 entering the top of seventh inning, Travis Santiago who was 2 for 4 on the day doubled to left. After Santiago was sacrificed to third, freshmen Nick Hernandez singled to center to score Santiago which tied the game at 4-4. With Hernandez at first and one out, Corey Brown promptly singled right field. Zach Ramirez came in and ran for Hernandez. Sophomore Zo Carrillo hit a ball that hit Ramirez who was called out. With two outs and Brown on Second and Carrillo on first, Aaron Henry walked to load bases. Joe Gil worked a walk and with Brown scoring made the score 5-4 with two outs. Ian Evans provided an insurance run when he singled to left to score Carrillo and a 6-4 lead. After Page allowed a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the seventh to bring the Huskies within one run, Page settled down and got next three batters out to preserve the win.

BASEBALL: MONTVIEW LEAGUE – GLADSTONE 14, WORKMAN 2

The Gladiators handily defeated the Lobos with an impressive offense. Juette Deas of Gladstone went 3 for 4, hit two home runs and drove in five runs while scoring three runs of his own. The mound was controlled by Richard Prieto for the first six innings, allowing only one hit and one run to capture his ninth win of the season. Workman could only muster one hit while Gladstone tallied 13 hits but both teams committed two errors a piece. Gladstone concludes the season at 16-6 overall and 10-4 in league.

SOFTBALL: PREP LEAGUE – PASADENA POLY 12, RIO HONDO PREP 2 (5 INNINGS)

The Panthers’ stellar offense coupled with the Kares’ four errors resulted in a mercy rule ending. Maddi Holder went 3 for 3 and scored two runs while three of her teammates, Kelly Berg, Alex Clark, and Becca Hanel, batted 2 for 3 to help Poly tally 13 hits. Starting pitcher Heather Choi threw all five innings allowing only three hits. Pasadena Poly finishes the season 14-4 and 10-2 in Prep League play.

SOFTBALL: DEL REY LEAGUE – BISHOP AMAT 1, ST. PAUL 0

It only took one home run for the Lancers to clinch their Del Rey league title against the Swordsmen. Bishop Amat’s offense was led by Alexis Gonzalez who went 2 for 3 and hit a solo home run to seal the win. Sabrina Anguiano controlled the mound the entire game and struck out six batters for the Lancers. St. Paul tallied four hits but left all runners stranded. Bishop Amat finishes the season 21-6 and closes out league play with a 12-0 record.
