What could've been...

About 1,400 fans packed the Pierce College gym Saturday night for the Poly-Sylmar and Taft-Campbell Hall games at the San Fernando Valley Showcase but hundreds of fans were quite literally, left out in the cold.

I asked the tournament organizers why they didn't hold the event at a larger facility, say CSUN, which holds between 1600-1800 people, and they said that Northridge wanted $3,500 to use the facility, while Pierce only charged $1,000. Same story with the BBG girls' tournament, which was held at College of the Canyons.

It should be noted that the Northridge men were playing a game at the Matadome on Saturday night, but tournament organizers said they would've adjusted the schedule around CSUN's games if the price had been right.

Instead, Pierce College got the right to host the biggest prep basketball event of the year. It was great exposure for the Brahmas and their facility.
