Chaminade girls' volleyball lands new coach
Chaminade of West Hills has a new girls’ volleyball coach.
Matt Shubin has been hired to coach the Chaminade girls’ volleyball team. The school announced the hiring through a release Friday. Shubin replaces Andrew Vazquez who resigned at the start of the season but before any matches were played. Vazquez led the Eagles to a 21-33 record from 2004 to last season.
Shubin takes over a young team lead by All-Daily News first team selection middle-blocker Kim Capicotto.
“The girls’ volleyball program at Chaminade has made significant strides toward improvement over the past four years,” said Joe Shapiro, the school’s Athletic Director. “We are so proud of the dedication our girls have shown in an effort to build the girls’ volleyball program. With Coach Shubin’s playing and coaching experience, he is the perfect person to bring Chaminade girls’ volleyball to the next level.”
Shubin coached both the boys’ and girls’ programs at Palisades Charter of Pacific Palisades for three years. He led the girls’ team to a Western League title with and a 26-5 record. Shubin, who played college volleyball at UCLA from 2001 to 2004 and professionally in Puerto Rico and Greece, was introduced to the girls’ volleyball team after school on Thursday.
