Checking out Taft last night

| | Comments (0) |

I was at Taft filming the Taft/Birmingham basketball game for the video I'm working on that will be on the website Tuesday, and I have to say that Taft is one of the most athletic teams I've ever seen in my six years at the paper. Larry Drew has tremendous court vision, Eugene Phelps can leap out of the building, Terran Carter is not afraid to the the dirty work, Justin Hawkins is solid all-around player and Bryce Smith has got a great shooting stroke. What a dangerous starting five. It goes without saying that Taft routed Birmingham.

After following Birmingham with Ramona Shelburne this past season, it was cool to see Malik Jackson and Exavier Johnson on the court. Johnson and Jackson, obviously not the polished basketball talents, still looked pretty good out there and I was especially impressed with Exavier's ball handling out there, he froze up a few Toreadors with some good crossovers.

Since It looks like I'm gonna do a video feature a week, I love to get some of your ideas for some subjects. Whether it's a team, player, mascot, whatever, just shoot me an email and I'll take a look.

Thanks,
Justin
