HS FOOT: Eagle Rock coach fired

| | Comments (0) |

Eagle Rock High football coach Jerry Chou, who has won two City Section Invitational titles and four Northern League championships in four years, was fired Friday by principal Salvador Velasco, Chou said.

“I was called into the office and asked if I’d like to re-apply, and I said no, I said I’ll go somewhere else. I was just speechless,” Chou said. “Then (Velasco) asked if I’d be transferring out after the semester or after the school year, and I said I’d be gone in 10 minutes, that I’m leaving right now.”

Velasco wasn’t available for comment.

Chou, 46, of Alhambra, was 43-7, including Invitational titles in 2005 and 2006. He said he will not consider returning to Eagle Rock.

“I feel betrayed. I don’t know how to take this,” Chou said. “(Velasco) didn’t even give me a reason.”

Chou said he has talked to most of his assistants, none of whom plan to apply for the job. Instead, Chou said, they will follow him.

“We’re going to try to stay together and coach somewhere else,” Chou said.
