HS FOOT: Paraclete's David Green snubbed by recruiters

paraclete logo.gifYou would think David Green, who intercepted 12 passes this past football season for Paraclete in Lancaster -- a relatively respected program that once won five Southern Section titles in a row and has seen numerous graduates play major-college football – would have some scholarship interest, but so far it’s not happening.

“I don’t know why, to be honest. It’s probably because Paraclete isn’t as well known as it was,” Green said.

It doesn’t help toiling in the distant High Desert, which has long been a hot bed for underrated talent.

With National Signing Day looming next Wednesday, Green, who is 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, plans to walk on San Jose State if a late offer does not come through.

Paraclete’s coach, Norm Dahlia, thinks it’s a travesty.

“His film looks really good,” Dahlia said. “I’m not just saying this because he’s on my team, but David is one of the best safeties I’ve ever seen. I think they’re missing the boat on this kid. Maybe he doesn’t run a 4.6 40-yard dash, but throw in the field and nobody can catch him.”

There is hope. Division I-AA Northern Arizona and NAIA school Kansas Wesleyan have expressed interest, and Arizona and Arizona State requested tape.

“He’s going to fit in somewhere,” Dahlia said.
