San Fernando wrestling encouraged by CIT results

San Fernando's wrestling team is coming off one of its most encouraging weekends of the season. The Tigers were the top local finisher at the California Invitational Tournament in Morro Bay, placing fifth out of 64 teams. Royal of Simi Valley, which had defeated San Fernando a week earlier to take the title at the Sam DeJohn tournament, finished 10th.
The Tigers had four top-four finishers. Mike Le (119), Mike Solis (140) and Lorenzo Chapman (heavyweight) each placed second. Benito Mendez (103) improved to 28-4 this season by finishing third, losing only to the defending state champion. Rashaad Reynolds' lone loss was to a returning state placer, but Reynolds injury defaulted to fourth place.
Two-time defending City champion San Fernando has finished in the top five in seven of the eight tournaments it has entered this season.
Other top local finishers at the CIT included Simi Valley's Chris Barr, who went 7-1 and finished third at 132 pounds.
