HS HOOPS: Knight's George de-commits from Pepperdine

question_mark.jpgPaul George, Knight of Palmdale High’s key player heading into Tuesday' s Div. II-A noys' basketball semifinal against Centennial of Corona at Antelope Valley College, has de-committed from Pepperdine in the wake of Waves’ coach Vance Walberg’s resignation last month.

George, a 6-8 forward, received his official release from Pepperdine on Friday, a few hours before scoring 22 points in a 61-52 quarterfinal victory at Ocean View of Huntington Beach.

“I feel pretty good about getting a chance to be recruited again,” George said. “I’ve got offers from Fresno State and Wyoming, and after the playoffs I’ll probably decide. I don’t want to rush into it.”

Meanwhile, Knight has emerged as a playoff surprise. The Hawks started just 3-3 but have steadily progressed, winning its past 13 in a row.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team improve so much since the start of the season,” coach Tom Hegre said. “Early in the season, we were mediocre. We’ve kind of flown under the radar.”
