HS HOOPS: Big day of basketball is upon us

12 price vs ren.jpgSANTA ANA -- Lots on the line today at the Southern California Regional championships at Mater Dei High -- nice gym, BTW -- as Div. V Renaissance Academy and Div. IV Campbell Hall look to qualify for the state final next Saturday at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

Renaissance Academy is warming up, and this one should be underway soon against Price of Los Angeles, which won eight section titles in a row from 1999 to 2006 -- also collecting five titles during that run. They're a good team again this season, and Renaissance figures to have its hands full.

Campbell Hall is a strong favorite to defeat San Joaquin Memorial at 7 in the D4 final, and if so the Vikings will contend for their third state title in four years -- a spree that not surprisingly has coincided with the arrival of Jrue Holiday, now a UCLA-bound senior.

Stay tuned. I will keep ya posted ...
