HS SOFT: Lancaster slugger has Wright stuff

| | Comments (0) |

Lancaster's Shawna Wright is only the second softball player in area history to hit 30 career home runs. surpassing former Quartz Hill star Jodie Cox, who hit 29 -- heading into today's Golden League game against winless Eastside of Lancaster.

With 14 games remaining heading into today's Golden League game against visiting Eastside, Wright, a junior, needs seven home runs to tie the area record of 37, set by Biana Mejia, who played at Sylmar and El Camino Real.

"The record would be nice, and I'm comfortable with the attention, but I'd rather the attention be on the team," Wright said. "When I'm up there, I don't really think home run, except maybe with a runner on third and less than two outs. That's when I'm trying to hit a fly ball. Otherwise, I just try to hit the ball on a line."

Wright has five home runs in 44 at-bats this season after hitting a state-best 14 last year and hit 11 home runs as a freshman
