HS HOOPS: Rutherford coming on strong for Campbell Hall
It’s never easy going up against Campbell Hall star Jrue Holiday, and nobody has to convince teammate Dallas Rutherford. The two go head to head every day, and Rutherford is a much better player for it.
“I take it as a challenge,” Rutherford said. “It’s made a big difference guarding him in practice every day.”
It’s not easy for Holiday, either. “He works me,” Holiday said. “Dallas can score. He can pretty much score on anybody, and he’s been doing it all year.”
Just like Holiday, Rutherford, averaging 16.7 points, does a bit of everything. He has twice scored more than 30 points in a game, and he has totaled as many as 14 rebounds, 12 assists and 11 steals.
“I feel like I’m playing well now on both ends – good defense and good offense,” Rutherford said.
The 6-3 guard is a key component for the Vikings (28-5) heading into Thursday’s 8 p.m. regional semifinal against Garces of Bakersfield at Harvard-Westlake in Studio City.
“Dallas is exactly what we expected him to be – a crafty, deceptive guard,” Campbell Hall coach Terry Kelly said.
