HS HOOPS: Stover needs to be Renaissance man vs. Price

Renaissance Academy of La Canada plays its bitter rival, Price of Los Angeles, in the Div. V Southern California Regional championship today at 3 p.m. at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, and the locals are hoping to turn the tide after twice being eliminated from the playoffs by the Knights.

The key for Renaissance Academy (26-3) could be Anthony Stover, a 6-foot-10 junior who is assigned the task of shutting down Price’s star center, 6-7 Tyreese Breshers, who has signed with Washington.

Stover is averaging 10.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 7.4 blocks, and he is aware how important his contributions will be if Renaissance is to advance to a state final for the first time in school history.

“I want this real bad,” Stover said. “We’re pretty up for this game.”

Renaissance Academy (26-3) vs. Price of L.A. (31-3) – A victory by Renaissance Academy would all but erase the memory of losing in the section semifinals last month – not to mention losses to Price in the section title game in 2005 and 2006.
