Saugus graduate Dunn opens career with back-to-back victories

Former Saugus cross country standout Katie Dunn made it two victories in as many meets to start her career at Glendale Community College, winning the 5-kilometer race Saturday at the Pierce College Invitational in 19 minutes, 20 seconds - eclipsing the former meet record of 19:31 - to lead the reigning state champion Vaqueros to another win.

The morning after their impressive performance at the season-opening Seaside Invitational in Ventura, several Saugus runners and coach Rene Paragas traveled to Woodland Hills to support Dunn, who recorded a victory at the Ventura Invitational in her junior college debut.

Glendale, ranked No. 4 in Southern California behind Orange Coast, Southwestern and Cypress, will compete Saturday morning at the Cuesta Invitational in San Luis Obispo.

Later that night, Saugus -- ranked No. 1 nationally by the Mile Split Network and No. 3 by Harrier Magazine -- will attempt to win its third consecutive team sweepstakes title at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic in Irvine.
