Crescenta Valley's Torres, Loyola's Gedyon in West regional rankings

Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta senior cross country star Zack Torres, coming off a victory Saturday at the Staub/Barnes Invitational, ascended to No. 7 in the West Regional individual rankings, according to Mile Split Network.

Torres, the state's top-ranked runner in Div. I, is one of five California individuals ranked in the regional top 12, along with Loyola of Los Angeles sophomore Elias Gedyon at No. 11.

Torres will have an opportunity to race against No. 1 Chris Schwartz (Foothill of Bakersfield) and No. 5 Tyler Valdes (Dana Hills of Dana Point) in Saturday's sweepstakes race at the Clovis Invitational at 10 a.m. at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Schwartz is the state's top-ranked runner in Div. III and Valdes leads the state's top-ranked team in Div. I. Also entered in the sweepstakes race is Palma of Salinas' Tyre Johnson, the state's top-ranked runner in Div. IV.
