Glendale Community College freshman cross country talent Katie Dunn, who led Saugus to back-to-back Div. I state titles, won for the fifth time in as many meets Friday at Verdugo Park in Glendale, leading the defending state champion Vaqueros to a convincing victory at the Western State Conference preview meet.

Dunn, coming off an impressive 16-second victory over reigning state champion Crystal Reed of Orange Coast a week ago at the Southern California preview meet in Bakersfield, cruised to a mark of 19 minutes, 3.46 seconds on the 5-kilometer layout to triumph over teammate Justina Sadauskaite (19:41.92).

Dunn and Sadauskaite helped GCC -- third last week in Bakersfield -- place five runners among the top six finishers to score 18 points. Bakersfield was second with 114, with a team time nearly 10 minutes behind the Vaqueros, who are seeking a fourth consecutive WSC title.

Valley College's Andrew Salg, the winner last week in Bakersfield, continued his impressive season with another victory Friday on the 6-kilometer course (21:00.56).

Former Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta standout Nathan Sellers (21:12.69) took fourth for GCC, which had all five scoring runners finish in the top 16 to prevail in the team competition with 47 points, ahead of Cuesta (85). College of the Canyons' Stephen Kent was fifth (21:16.06) for the fourth-place Cougars (110), the defending WSC champion.
