HS FOOT: Kicked out of the St. Margaret's team box
On Friday afternoon I went over to Campbell Hall of North Hollywood to cover the 3 p.m. non-league game between the Vikings and two-time defending Northeast champion St. Margaret's of San Juan Capistrano.
I love going to Campbell Hall because the coaches, athletic trainer, athletic director and everyone on the Campbell Hall sideline treats me so well.
Drew Kempf (trainer) sets me up in his office with internet connection, coach Russell Gordon welcomes me on the sideline in the team box so I can keep track of the stats accurately and Juan Velasquez (Athletic Director) always invites me to the after game meal.
I can't say the same for the St. Margaret's sideline.
I went over there for the second half partly to get out of the sun and partly to get a little closer to former Canyon of Country coach Harry Welch.
After a few minutes, I was approached by Welch's wife who asked me to leave the team box because I couldn't produce my press credential, which I left in the car.
I told her my purpose, had a clipboard in my hand and was chatting with Jake Downey, a local video reporter.
Hardly a threat to anyone.
I also explained I just wanted to keep stats and I wasn't spying for any other teams.
I couldn't believe it.
