Loyola's Lords, Thousand Oaks' Sciarillo run in NXN boys' open race

Before the Loyola and Thousand Oaks boys' cross country teams competed in the championship race Saturday at the fifth annual Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon, their eighth runners took to the 5-kilometer course at Portland Meadows for the open race.

Loyola senior Jeff Lords, competing for Los Angeles Cross Country Club, finished 54th in 17 minutes 38.4 seconds.

Thousand Oaks senior Kevin Sciarillo took 65th in 18:06.1.

For the second year in a row, the Kenyan contingent controlled the race, with Nickson Chepseba and Eric Kiprono both crossing the finish line in 15:50.9 en route to the team scoring a perfect 15.

Arcadia's Ammar Moussa was the top finisher from Southern California, taking ninth in 16:33.6.
