After 4 complete rounds of state wrestling...
There are only three local wrestlers left in the state tournament.
Jonathan Urango (160) Camarillo
Matt Hickman (Camarillo) 140
Saul Garcia (125) Moorpark
Urango is the only one of the three still in the championship bracket and guaranteed to medal. He is in the semi-finals and faces #1 ranked Steven West of Buchanan of Clovis next. If he wins that, he could have a rematch with Temecula Valley rival Patrick Martinez - who beat him last week to win the Masters Meet.
The remaining four wrestlers at 160 pounds are the top four ranked guys in the state. (West is #1, Martinez #2, James Cook is #3 and Urango #4) Interestingly, Urango placed fourth at last year's state tournament at 145 pounds, while Cook won state at 152 pounds, but at Clovis West (now he is at Madera). Also last year, Martinez beat West in the quarterfinals last year at state then West blew through the rest of the consolation bracket and finished third while Martinez lost twice more and finished sixth.
Now they all meet tomorrow.
Garcia is the surprise of the three, after finishing sixth at Master's. Hickman and Urango both finished second at Masters - and both could have rematches with their Masters opponents tomorrow.
