Softball: Hart and Valencia didn't end up playing each other

The two best teams in the Foothill League were supposed to play each other Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in a consolation game at the Nike Faster to First tournament in Huntington Beach.

Luckily, tournament organizers changed things up so the teams didn't have to play an essentially meaningless game before what should be two great league games next month and in May.

After both teams played to nearly 10 p.m. Friday night they had to be back down in Huntington Beach for 9 a.m. contests Saturday.

Hart beat Sunrise Mountain of Arizona 3-2 in eight innings but lost to Ayala of Chino Hills 5-4 in its 1 p.m. final game of the tournament.

Valencia lost 3-2 to El Toro of Lake Forest in the morning but came back to beat Pacifica of Garden Grove 2-1 in the afternoon.

Hart is now 12-2 and has 16 days off until league play begins.

Valencia is 11-3 and is headed for the Michelle Carew Classic, another top tournament with great competition.
